long journey to Olympic glory began in 1990 when John decided to take up cycling. 9 years later John entered his first race in Toledo, Ohio which resulted in a third place finish not bad for the first time out. 

 

Through the years there were other achievements like Cyclist of the Year in 2003 and placed 3rd overall in the Michigan Grand Prix Duathlon series in 2004.  2007 he was ranked 59th in the country in Duathlon. On August 7th he flies to San Francisco, site of the 2009 Senior Olympic games with representatives from all 50 states (1500 athletes) to compete in over 25 different venues. There are 350 athletes from Ohio alone. John will be competing in both 5K and 10K time trials in which he qualified during the Ohio State Championships last summer where he took home a pair of Bronze medals. The Senior Olympics run from August 1st through August 15th

John competed on August 10th.  The 5 k was run in the morning in near perfect conditions. The 10 K Time Trial was run in the afternoon in 100° temps with a 30 mph head wind. John placed 30th in his age group and 1min out of gold medal contention. overall place 100 out of 360 competitors.  Way to go John, we're proud of you!
