Josh Futrel met us at the bike shop at 6:15am, October 18. That was asking a lot from someone who LOVES to sleep in!!(Josh!)   As we neared our destination, we actually drove on part of the race course and realized it wasn’t quite as flat as we had hoped! Brooks met us at the start/finish, and we got busy trying to warm up on the trainers. The morning began at 26 degrees, and as the weather warmed, conditions were different for each rider. Josh rode the first 25 mile leg, so he got the cold temps but not too much wind. I (Joyce) was second out, so it had warmed a bit, but the wind began to pick up. Brooks had more warmth, more wind, and had to ride back-to-back 25 miles+25 miles, as the three of us did the final 25 as a team! Anyone who has done time trials knows they can range in distance from 10-20 miles, so this was a true test of our “grit”, as we ultimately had to ride as fast as we could for 50 miles. We were excited to have individual average speeds of 18-21+ mph. That was with Josh and I on non-time trial bikes. (Yep, I’m going to ride a Masi TT bike next time!) Not too bad for a distance that far and two “newby’s. I told Brooks we were his anchor, literally! Brooks was a great leader with a strong ride. We could not have done it without our fearless, inspirational trainer, my husband, Ferg!!

A great day and a learning experience, we WILL be back!!!

There are a couple of more pics on http://speedy-feet.com/ website, and a description of the race. Please consider doing this time trial with us next year. Individual category is available.
